Our friends at NewLife Rescue & Adoption, one of Indiana's newest animal rescue organizations, have issued an urgent plea. The rescue is in desperate need of critical supplies to continue providing for the animals in its care.

A New Place for NewLife

NewLife Rescue & Adoption is the culmination of years of hard work by two different animal rescues coming together to create a unified front to care for the homeless animals in Posey County Indiana. Formerly PC Pound Puppies and Posey Humane Society, NewLife Rescue & Adoption staff, and volunteers have been working tirelessly to scrape together the resources to build a new facility to care for the animals in the county.

Kitten Season is Here

Unfortunately, kitten season is here. For those not in the know, kitten season is when area rescues and shelters find themselves overrun with kittens. A female cat can become pregnant as early as four to five months of age. From there, the female cat can have multiple litters in a year's time, often with as many as four to six kittens, sometimes more, in each litter. You do not have to be a math wiz to see the problem here. A single female cat has the potential to birth dozens of other cats just in a single year. With those kinds of numbers, it is easy to see how our local animal rescue facilities could become inundated and overrun with kittens.

You Can Help

First and foremost, the best thing you can do to help is to make sure that your pets are spayed or neutered to prevent unwanted litters. You also can volunteer and donate to an area rescue or shelter.

Supplies in Critical Need

With the potential for a large number of kitten intakes, NewLife is trying to prepare but they have found themselves in short supply of some of their most critical needs to care for the kittens that will ultimately find their way into the care of the rescue. Some of the items that the rescue is in desperate need of include:

  • KMR Milk Replacement
  • Wet Kitten Food
  • Purina Kitten Food
  • 33-gallon & 13-gallon trash bags
  • Size large latex gloves
  • Paper towels
  • Clumping Cat Litter
  • Purina dry cat food in the blue bag
  • Purina dry dog food in the red or green bag

They also could use basic cleaning supplies like laundry detergent, bleach, Pinesol, and Odoban. You can find out more by visiting NewLife Rescue & Adoption on their Facebook page.
