Evansville citizens are urged to report road and pot hole problems via Twitter, at road meeting or on the phone.

A series of winter storms and heavy rains has caused numerous potholes in city streets prompting Mayor Lloyd Winnecke to kick-off the annual pothole blitz earlier than usual. Street Maintenance Department crews have been filling potholes as needed when the weather permits. Starting today, extra crews have been assigned to pothole patrols, and the public is encouraged to report potholes to the city.

“The city traditionally conducts the annual pothole blitz in April, but with the constant freezing and thawing of city roads problem areas are becoming more frequent,” said Mayor Winnecke. “While we are officially still in the winter season, I feel it is important to get a jump on fixing potholes before spring.”

Transportation and Services Executive Assistant Kerry Kemp said two extra crews have been assigned to fill potholes and additional crews will be added, if necessary. “We need the public’s help to identify where all potholes are located so we can coordinate our resources and send crews to repair those areas,” Kemp said.

To report potholes, citizens can:

  1. Call Evansville Street Maintenance at 812-435-6000
  2. Post location and photo on Twitter with the hashtag #EvvPotholes
  3. Attend the annual city road meeting set for Wednesday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the C.K. Newsome Community Center, 100 E. Walnut St.
