A list was put together from stacker.com of the Top 20 Most Popular Museums in America and three of the top 20 spots were filled up with museums in Illinois, and really the only museums representing the midwest states. The museums that make the list from Illinois are all located in Chicago, the Museum of Science and Industry comes in as a tie for 16th place on their list, tied with the Udvar-hazy Center in Washington, DC. Next is the Field Museum which comes in at 14th place on the list, and finally the Art Institue of Chicago comes in at 13th place. The list is dominated by museums in Washington DC, and the top spot on the list goes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.

There are only a few states even on the list, Washington DC has 8 of the top 20, followed by Illinois, New York, and California with three each, and the Colorado, Massachusettes, and Texas each with one. To see the full list of museums click here!

I love all of the museums on this list from Illinois, you have heard me talk on the morning show countless times about how amazing the Museum of Science and Industry is, personally I think it is the best museum in Illinois for the fact that they have the U505 submarine. But it is a reminder that Chicago is much more than just entertainment, tall buildings, and sports, but has some world-class museums!

Many of the included towns jump out at the casual observer as popular summer-rental spots--the Ozarks' Branson, Missouri, or Arizona's Lake Havasu--it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely pick up some knowledge from a wide range of Americana: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that started as a Civil War veteran retirement area; an island boasting some of the country's top public schools and wealth-earners right in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing much more than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
