The City Of Evansville Mentioned On HBO Film
The city of Evansville got some love on an HBO documentary that premiered on April 10th.
"André the Giant" aired last night on HBO. The film followed the life and career of one of the most recognizable public figures, André René Roussimoff, more commonly known as André the Giant. As you may know, he was a famous wrestler in the 1970's and 1980's. His life was cut short at age 46 due to acromegaly, a hormonal disorder that results when the pituitary gland produces excess growth hormone.
In the film, former collegues of his were interviewed, sharing details of André's life. One wrestler, Jerry "the King" Lawler, actually gave Evansville a shout out. He was talking about how hectic André's travel schedule was back in the day, and Evansville was a part of that schedule, as André would wrestle at the Evansville Coliseum.
It took me by surprise hearing Evansville mentioned on national TV like that. If you haven't seen the film, I encourage you to check it out on HBO. It doesn't matter if you are a fan of wrestling or not. The life of André the Giant was quite interesting. From how difficult everyday life was for a "giant" to his time on set of the movie "The Princess Bride," everything about that documentary was amazing.
