Job openings at the new Deaconess Sports Park, technical skills training for higher paying jobs, apprenticeship opportunities with local building trades and upcoming hiring events will be the focus of discussion at the Traveling City Hall/Community Conversations meeting Wednesday, April 29, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Evansville, 700 Bellemeade Ave.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke is bringing the meeting back to the 4th Ward where “Community Conversations” began last September in response to an increase in criminal activity in neighborhoods across the city. Citizens were encouraged to share ideas for reducing crime and getting more people involved in the community. Many residents attending the meetings said one of the biggest needs was for employment and higher-wage jobs.

Tomorrow’s meeting will feature representatives WorkOne Southwest, the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center, Ivy Tech Community College Southwest, the Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 16, Laborers’ Local 561, and Operating Engineers Local 181. Mark Craig, sports facilities director at Deaconess Sports Park, will provide information about more than 50 seasonal job openings at the new facility scheduled to open in May.

Mayor Winnecke will open the meeting and moderate the panel discussion, and city department heads will be present to talk one-on-one with residents about specific concerns related to local government. All Evansville residents are welcome to attend.
