DeWig Meats to Celebrate Centennial

HAUBSTADT, Ind. (AP) — A southwestern Indiana company that makes German-inspired meats and sausages is winning accolades as it celebrates its centennial year.

Dewig Meats in Haubstadt has been attracting the attention from local "foodies" and national judges alike for its braunschweiger, a type of liverwurst made from pork liver.

Darla Kiesel tells the Princeton Daily Clarion (http://bit.ly/1RDVwMc ) that Dewig Meats' braunschweiger is a bit different because it doesn't taste have the texture of a ham or a loaf.

Dewig Meats was founded in 1916 in Haubstadt, a Gibson County town about 15 miles north of Evansville with considerable German heritage.

The company also makes and sells a line of local beef and pork, hams, sausages, German bologna, hot dogs, bratwurst, beer, wine and other products.
