Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. announced on Monday it was adding nearly 1.6 million vehicles to its voluntary recall due to a flaw in air bags that have led to the deaths of 11 motorists.

According to their website, the issue is with air bags featuring a Takata inflator. The propellant used to inflate the air bag during a crash has been shown to degrade over time causing the inflator to rupture, which could send plastic and metal pieces flying toward the driver at a high rate of speed.

The list of affected vehicle is as follows:

  • 2009 - 2011MY Corolla, Matrix
  • 2006 - 2011MY Yaris
  • 2010 - 2011MY 4Runner
  • 2011MY Sienna
  • 2008 - 2011MY Scion xB
  • 2007 - 2011MY Lexus ES
  • 2010 – 2011MY Lexus GX
  • 2006 – 2011MY Lexus IS

If your vehicle is listed, Toyota says it will notify you via first class mail with instructions on where to have your air bag replaced.
