There's probably not a sports event that inspires more parties than the Super Bowl! And some people go all out to entertain their friends and families for the Big Game. Look! Why do you think there are so many ads for snack foods and beer during the Super Bowl? The advertisers are certainly playing to their audience and they know you're likely watching with a plate of food in your hand.

There are some foods that are staples of a football-watching party, right? I certainly would list chicken wings on the list. I would also include a variety of chips and dips. My friend Merritt Bates-Thomas, who's the nutritionist at the Green River District Health Department, has a Layered Mediterranean Dip recipe that will instantly transport you from the gridiron to Greece.

Here's how to make it!

LAYERED MEDITERRANEAN DIP

1 - 10 ounce container classic hummus or homemade hummus
1 cup Greek yogurt (plus the following 4 ingredients to make homemade tzatziki)
4 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
1/4 cup shredded English cucumber
1 cup English cucumber, diced
1 cup tomato, diced
1/2 cup red onion, diced
1/4 cup kalamata olives, diced
1/4 cup sliced pepperoncini, drained
2 -3 ounces of feta cheese, crumbled
parsley to taste for garnish
pita chips for dipping
DIRECTIONS:
In a mixing bowl add yogurt, garlic, lemon, juice, dill, and shredded cucumber.  Set aside.  Assemble ingredients in order layering one on top of the other starting with hummus, followed by Greek yogurt mixture, and then add the diced vegetables.
Serve with pita chips.
I sampled this when Merritt brought it to the show. It smells incredible and the taste whisked me away to Santorini!  Enjoy.
