Demonstrators rallied in front of the IRS offices in Evansville today to protest the recent revelations of improper targeting of the party and other conservative groups.

The protesters were greeted by thumbs up and horns honking from drivers that were passing by on Eagle Crest Boulevard off the Lloyd Expressway on the east side.

The Evansville protest was on of over 100 protests that took place today at IRS offices from coast to coast.

In Cincinnati activists chanted “IRS has got to go” and called the agency the “internal revenge service” and “illegal research system” on rally signs. In Washington, DC, a few dozen protesters gathered outside IRS headquarters with similar signs, calling for the IRS to be audited and even abolished.

A Northern California Tea Party chapter filed a lawsuit against the IRS in a federal court in Cincinnati in conjunction with the protests, the first such suit against the agency in wake of the controversy. The case filed Monday by the NorCal Tea Party Patriots claims that the scrutiny it received at the hands of the IRS violated both its right to privacy and freedom of speech.

It’s always sad news to hear about puppy mills. If you aren’t familiar with the term, it’s an operation of dogs (usually small breeds) who are used exclusively to breed for puppy sales. Many times, the dogs are kept their entire lives in small confinements and sadly, deplorable conditions. We are happy to report that two puppy mills have decided to close and the Warrick Humane Society has many very deserving dogs that need a home.

Owning a puppy mill dog isn’t always the easiest task. Most are not housebroken, are missing teeth, need medication or aren’t socialized. But, the payoff is that you are truly rescuing a helpless creature who has suffered torture throughout their life.

According to Lindsey Byers, WHS Executive Director, “This is a combined effort of WHS and Tri-State Yorkie Rescue.  Last week, we took in seven puppy mill dogs and this week we took 25 from two separate puppy mills choosing to shut down in Missouri.  Missouri laws are becoming stricter and instead of keeping their breeding up to code, they choose to shut down instead.  Last week’s rescue included a French Bulldog, Chihuahua’s, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, and a Puggle.  Yesterday’s rescue included Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Chorkies, Maltese, and Poodles.  This is the fifth puppy mill that has shut down and we have taken dogs from.”

No threats found during search for person with a gun at Day School. Evansville Day School was placed on lockdown after a call was made to 911 saying there was a person in the school with a gun. There were no reports of shots being fired.

Officers from the Evansville Police Department and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call and secured the campus. A sweep of the school was conducted and no threats were found.

The lockdown was lifted after officer determined the school was safe. An investigation is underway to determine why the initial call was made to 911. – Evansville Police Department

I’ve been traveling from my home in Florida to Evansville for dance parties for the past 22 years and have never had to cancel an appearance… until now. Just as I was heading for the airport Friday, the winds became so strong that all flights were cancelled. Not to worry, there was an early morning flight available that would get me there in plenty of time.

I got up way too early on Saturday morning, only to discover that the storm had knocked out power lines on  the highway to the airport and there was no telling when the roads would be free of hazards like power lines.

So I’m stuck here in the middle of this windy, rainy weekend when I would much rather be in Evansville for the Monster Mash Bash Dance Party. We’ll find a way to make it up to you.

In the meantime, the party is still on with Johnny Kincaid taking my place to play the tunes and keep you amused. Come on out to the Coliseum tonight for a really fun time

For naming rights to the stadium, Ford will pay the city $4.2 million dollars over the next three years.

Mayor Wienzapfel said that the fact that a multi-national corporation like Ford is willing to sponsor our arena in Evansville is a sign that our Evansville is “an up and coming city.”

Contracts have been worked out with the University of Evansville Aces for basketball and with the Icemen for hockey in the new facility. The mayor suggested that announcements will be made soon about the first concerts to take place in the arena.

The first event that was the launch pad for 911 Gives Hope, was ‘Music For Mickey’ which was a charity concert put together by Mickey’s father, Evansville police officer Patrick Phernetton. Mickey Phernetton suffers from a rare disorder called Prader-Willi syndrome which is basically an enzyme deficiency that helps the body to feel full after eating. People who suffer from prader-willi are constantly hungry and never feel full and without someone controlling what they eat, could very easily eat themselves to death. Very little was known about the disease a few years ago, but that is changing.

The biggest check of $53,000 went to a project being spearheaded by Phernetton to build a prader-willi group home in the Evansville area. There are very few of those homes throughout the country and there is no treatment for prader-willi as of yet. Other charities receiving money today included the Evansville association For the Blind, ARK Crisis Center, the Evansville Shriners and many other organizations and youth groups. Nice job guys and thank you for protecting us day in day out and thank you for protecting our children.

Around the Tri-State, many people have been affected by the treacherous conditions created by enormous amount of rainfall over the past number of days. In Vanderburgh and Warrick Counties, many roads have standing water and are unnavigable. If you know of some more areas that are underwater let us know in the comments below.
