It's National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, and if you've been considering adding a furry member to your family, might I recommend a shelter pet?

This week is National Animal Shelter Appreciation week! If you've ever owned a shelter pet or volunteered at a shelter, you know the hard work the shelters do under the constant stress of pet overpopulation, but they still work their tails off to make sure as many furry friends as possible find their forever homes.

Local rescues and shelters will always have a special place in my heart because both of my dogs are rescues.  I have two rescued Pit Bulls. Wrigley (tan) was pulled from an animal hoarding situation as a puppy and ended up at Animal Control where she was then placed into the care of Another Chance for Animals.  George (brindle) came to It Takes a Village as a puppy with mange.  These places took a chance on these dogs, and I'm so glad they did because now they're both a very big part of my family. They're my sweet fur babies!  I'm forever grateful for the work these places do in the community.

So if you've ever considered adopting a pet, may I suggest taking a chance on a shelter pet?  It may just be the best decision you've ever made! I know that's true in my case, the two adoption fees I paid for my dogs is the best money I've ever spent!
