New Vaccine Requirements for Kentucky Students Effective July 1st
Effective July 1st of this year, all students across Kentucky will be required to have two doses of the Hepatitis A vaccine, while others will also be required to get two doses of the meningitis vaccine as well, depending on their age, before heading back to class for the 2018-2019 school year.
The Kentucky Department for Public Health announced the new vaccination requirement back in July of 2017 along with a few other new regulations that took effect at that time. The Hepatitis A vaccination applies to all students entering Kindergarten through 12th grade, while only students 16-years-old and up will also now require the meningitis vaccine.
Owensboro Health Medical Group (OHMG) offered a reminder of the new requirements in a Facebook post on Friday.
OHMG also offered a breakdown of each disease the vaccinations are designed to prevent, and suggests parents not wait until the last minute to get the immunizations scheduled. It needs to be taken care of, so you might as well take care of it sooner rather than later, right?
