Well, a winter storm blew her way through the tristate and left us with a mess. Here's the latest from our KY Transportation Cabinet. And remember TAKE IT SLOW OUT THERE!

FROM Keith Todd, Public Information Officer
District One & Two - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Crews in District 2 have been spot treating highways across the northern counties of the district.

Trucks have been out overnight in Daviess, Henderson, Hopkins, and Union counties.  While most efforts have focused on treating bridges, overpasses and other potential trouble spots, Union County has been plowing in some areas.  Hancock County reported a tree down and blocking KY 3199.

Pre-treating of highways helped to give crews a head start on their response efforts. As the winter precipitation filtered into the area late Wednesday, District 2 counties kept a few personnel on standby in most of the northern counties to respond as needed.  Crews ramped up to full staffing at 5 a.m., CST, to be available to improve driving conditions for the morning commute.

Motorists who venture out early today should use appropriate caution and be aware that there may continue to be slick spots-- particularly on bridges and overpasses, as well as hills and curves that are exposed to the wind that may have cooled pavement temperatures.

The KYTC District 2 Operations Center in Madisonville has reported no major issues during the overnight hours other than one blockage in Hancock County.

Hancock County reports KY 3199 is blocked by a downed tree and plower line between the 4 and 5 mile marker.  This is along KY 3199 between US 60 and the Hancock-Breckenridge County Line.  A utility crew is expected at the site to assist with clearing the roadway sometime after daylight.  There is no estimated duration.

District 2 crews anticipate driving conditions in counties that got the most winter precipitation will get a big boost once temperatures start to rise after daylight.  However, motorists should continue to use caution anytime road surfaces remain wet at temperatures are at or below freezing.
