‘Do Not Drive’ Advisory for Certian Honda Vehicles
If you drive an older Honda, you are being urged to park your vehicle and not drive it due to a very dangerous reason.
Back in December, we reported that there was a massive ongoing recall for Dodge and Chrysler cars that you might want to be aware of. This recall comes as a result of an exploding Takata airbag having a high possibility of exploding. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for 276,000 vehicles. Now, we have another "Do Not Drive" order issued for certain Honda vehicles due to exploding airbags.
Honda's "Do Not Drive" Warning
On February 3rd, Honda issued a "Do Not Drive" Warning for certain 2001-2003 Acura and Honda vehicles equipped with unrepaired Takata Alpha driver-side airbag inflators. This is a very serious issue, and it should be fixed ASAP before you drive your vehicle. Here's what the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said about this issue:
These vehicles are 20 to 22 years old now, and the risk to vehicle occupants is dire. Alpha airbags are some of the oldest under recall, and they have a 50% failure rate. If the inflators rupture, the metal fragments ejected toward the driver’s face could kill or leave them with devastating, life-altering injuries.
“If you have a vehicle with a recalled Takata Alpha airbag, you must get it repaired now – for free. These inflators are two decades old now, and they pose a 50% chance of rupturing in even a minor crash. Don’t gamble with your life or the life of someone you love – schedule your free repair today before it’s too late,” said NHTSA Acting Administrator Ann Carlson.
NHTSA says that there are around 8,200 Honda and Acura vehicles with the most dangerous airbags that are still being driven today. For your safety, and the safety of your loved ones, it's imperative that you get these airbags replaced for free immediately. If you drive any of the following models with Alpha airbags, you should make sure that you park your vehicle until the airbag is replaced.
- 2001-2002 Honda Accord
- 2001-2002 Honda Civic
- 2002 Honda CR-V
- 2002 Honda Odyssey

- 2003 Acura 3.2CL
