ALERT: Perdue’s Frozen Chicken Breast Tenders May Contain Plastic and Blue Dye

Check your freezers!  The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a "public health alert" after it was discovered that Perdue's frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast tenders may have been contaminated and may contain blue dye and small bits of clear plastic.

What To Look For

The Public Health Alert was issued for products sold in 42-ounce plastic bags with the product name "Perdue Chicken Breast Tenders Gluten Free" on the label. The impacted products were produced on July 12, 2022, and feature a "Best If Used By" date of July 12, 2023. Once you located the use by date, you can check for the lot number just above the date. For this product alert, it is lot number 2193. Below the use by date, you will find the products' establishment number, which will read, “P-33944.”

The Discovery

According to the USDA, the issue with the frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast tenders was discovered after a consumer filed a complaint stating they had discovered clear plastic and blue dye inside the product.

No Longer In Stores

The chicken, labeled as “gluten free” is no longer available for purchase in stores, and it's for that reason a full recall has not been issued. However, the USDA warns that the products may still be in consumers' freezers. In the event that you have one of these products in your home, you are advised to throw it away immediately or return it to the store where you originally purchased it.
