There are quite a few good movies out there right now, which makes me wonder why the January boxoffice take nationally is off by 25%, according to some showbiz reports. Story doesn't get out to the movies all that often lately since I've officially entered the world of the "senior citizen," or as I delicately choose to call it:  "geezerdom," but there are some good movies that my generation might (I say might) like:

"127 Hours" - Or, "How I Spent My Summer Vacation - Just Me and My Pocket Knife." This overconfident goof goes off into the wild, gets in big trouble between a rock and a hard place, and has to cut off his forearm to escape. Yeah, the feel-good movie of the year, I know. Good suspense and quite a bit of claustrophobia enter in to the proceedings, but "127 Hours" is well-done by all, especially James Franco, and is worth seeing if you can take the premise of the true story being told.

"Green Hornet" - A noisy spoof of superhero movies with Seth Rogen, his car the "Black Beauty," comic book villains, and a plot I've already forgotten - all in glorious 3-D. If this is the kind of thing you like, you'll probably like this thing called "Green Hornet," but if not - you will absolutely HATE this movie.

"The Fighter" Christian Bale tops a great cast in a true story about a come-from-behind tank-town fighter and his rise to fame. Very, very good sports drama.

"The King's Speech" - The Best Picture of the year. What else do you need to know? Go see it.

"Tron" - Spelled backwards the title sounds like "nort." I do nort believe you'll like this one much unless your into Sci-Fi, CGI, and wooden plots with acting to match. But... it's in great 3-D!

"True Grit" - The second best movie I saw in 2010 happens to be a western, and an honest and truly wonderful return to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when the good guys fought back, the bad guys wore black and little girls could get justice in the courts of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Anyone past a certain age who remembers how much fun a western can be should see this movie. Twice.
