It's called “Wildcats Give Back” day, and while the teachers are enjoying the gift of time this holiday season, all Wildcats will be engaging in projects to benefit our community.

Here’s a little about the organizations they are helping, and how:

K, 1st, and 2nd graders all will have the opportunity to make a festive place mat for those in need of a hot meal at United Caring Services. United Caring Services offers both day and night shelter services in Evansville. They serve more than 300 hot meals a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), seven days a week — and offer other services and a safe place for the elderly, disabled, and homeless.

Grades K and 1 also will be making holiday cards to share with some special people this season. Your cards will go to Meals on Wheels and will be delivered along with a hot meal to the elderly, sick, and mentally or physically handicapped members of our community who are home bound.

Grades 2 and 6 will be making animal toys for the Vanderburgh County Humane Society. The VHS serves as a surrender and adoption agency for unwanted pets. These toys will help brighten their days!

Grade 3 will be putting together grab bags with small toys for children served by Ronald McDonald House Charities. RMHC helps families with sick children find comfort and support when they need it most.

Third graders also will be writing letters — “Pup Mail” — for homeless animals at It Takes a Village No-Kill Rescue, whose mission it is to help homeless animals, regardless of breed, location, or circumstance.

Grades 4 and 5 will be making wooden ornaments and cheerful notes for foster children served by Borrowed Hearts, whose mission is to ensure every foster family has a loving support system in which to thrive.

Grades 4, 5, and 6 also will be making snowflakes for Ark Crisis Child Care Center. Ark is a safe place where moms, dads, grandmas, grandpas, and all kinds of caregivers can bring their kids while they go take care of things. When the kiddos are at Ark they get warm meals, playtime, and lots of hugs and love from their teachers. Some of the kiddos may not come from the best home and may not have a safe place to play and sleep and eat but when they are at Ark Crisis Child Care Center, they will have safety and lots of love. The snowflakes will be used to decorate their Fairy Tale Ball in April 2020, and will help make it even more magical.
