Local Authorities Warn of Counterfeit Money Use in the Tri-State
Owensboro Police are warning residents in their area of an increase in cases of fraudulent bills being used for transactions. With Owensboro's close proximity to the Evansville and Henderson area, it's certainly within the realm of possibility this fake money could find it's way into your pocket.
The Department says it's "currently investigating 32 cases that involve the exchange of fraudulent bills for goods and services." They went on to say they've seen fake "5’s, 20’s, 50’s, and $100 bills" (sic), and shared photos of what to look for on their Facebook page.
If you live in the Owensboro area, and happen to receive one of these bills, call Owensboro Police at 270-687-8888, leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 270-687-8484.
If you're an Evansville resident and happen to find something similar, contact the Evansville Police Department at 812-435-6194.
Henderson residents can call the Henderson Police Department at 270-831-1295.
