Did you know plastic materials can occur naturally in the forms of tree sap and fossilized resin, animal bones and horns and bees’ wax? Fantastic Plastic, a new permanent exhibit opening at the Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville (cMoe) on February 22, 2014, tells the story of plastics and their impact on the world over the past 100 years.

In Fantastic Plastic, children will learn about the fascinating and often surprising process of manufacturing and recycling plastics. They will use their ingenuity to create with recycled plastic at the “Creation Station.” Painting on the 6-foot clear LEXAN™ resin panels from SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business will let their imaginations come alive. Toddlers will play and learn with plastic cling match-ups in the Tot Corner, and cMoe Play Guides will offer a rotation of programs in our workshop space. Fantastic Plastic will truly show children how plastics shape our world!

cMoe invites you to a ribbon cutting and public opening on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. At 10:00 a.m., employees of SABIC’s Innovative Plastics, the primary sponsor and co-creator of the exhibit, will lead an amazing science show for kids and kids at heart! Fantastic Plastic is sponsored by SABIC, Alcoa Foundation, All American Tile, Electrical Maintenance & Construction, Inc., SABIC’s Polymershapes, Green Tree Plastics, Jam Painting, Plastique Polydx Inc., and Tri-State Machine Co. Inc.

“SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business is pleased to assist the Children’s Museum with creating a new, educational exhibit that highlights the power of plastic -- something that is very important to our community,” said Joe Castrale, plant manager of SABIC’s Mt. Vernon, Ind. facility. “Additionally, we hope the exhibit portrays how plastic is solving some of the world's biggest problems and brings to life the importance of science and math, inspiring youth to pursue exciting, careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).”

cMoe’s Celebration of Art will also be taking place on February 22nd with art projects, a dollhouse making demonstration, and dance performance by the Children’s Center for Dance Education.
