American Red Cross to Give Out FREE Smoke Alarms in Evansville this Weekend
It's estimated that every day residential fires kills about seven people throughout the US. The worst part about that statistic is that many of those deaths could have been prevented with something as simple as a working smoke alarm.
The American Red Cross responds to many of these disasters and residential fire makes up the majority of their 64,000 nation-wide disasters each year which is why they launched the Home Fire Campaign in 2014.
On Friday, September 13, 2019 and Saturday, September 14, 2019 from 8:30 AM - 1 PM, volunteers from The American Red Cross, Spectrum, Evansville Fire Department, Salvation Army, United Way of Southwestern Indiana, CHAIN & STAR Neighborhood Association will convene and do training at First Avenue Presbyterian Church, 418 N. 1st Avenue, Evansville, IN 47710 before going out into the surrounding communities to knock on doors to provide fire safety information, test smoke alarms, replace batteries and install free smoke alarms where needed.
Volunteers are still needed. To volunteer, email volunteerindcs@redcross.org. Training starts at 8:30 AM before canvassing the surrounding community.
