Evansville Urban Forestry was out yesterday, equipment in tow, taking down trees outside of Willard Library on First Avenue after it was discovered that the trees had been infiltrated by the Emerald Ash Borer.

The Emerald Ash Borer is a non-native species of insect that has found its way to Indiana and it is eating the ash trees. The Ash Borer was first found in downtown Evansville in 2016. Since then, the little creatures have spread down First Avenue and as far now as the Garvin Park area. If you have an ash tree on your property, you are encouraged to treat the tree as a preventative measure against the Emerald Ash Borer. As for the trees on city properties - parks, cemeteries, etc... - the city is asking for the public's help to treat them by donating to the city's "Adopt an Ash" program.
