Robert Duvall Joins the All-Star Cast of Steve McQueen’s ‘Widows’
To say that Steve McQueen’s heist thriller Widows should be on your radar would be an understatement. The film, adapted from a BBC miniseries of the same name, already boasts an incredibly talented cast list — and has just added veteran actor and Oscar winner Robert Duvall.
Deadline reports that Duvall joins Viola Davis, Andre Holland, Colin Farrell, Liam Neeson, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Debicki and Daniel Kaluuya in the film about the wives of four armed robbers who are widowed when their husbands are killed during a job, and decide to finish the heist themselves. It already has a script by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn and with a cast like this, there’s no way this isn’t going to be a huge deal.
Duvall has been nominated for an Oscar seven times, winning once for 1983’s Tender Mercies. He has also starred in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, The Judge, To Kill a Mockingbird, Crazy Heart, and Jack Reacher. Steve McQueen’s last feature was 2013’s 12 Years a Slave, which won the Best Picture Oscar, a Golden Globe, and a BAFTA. By the time Widows opens it’ll be more than four years since his last picture, but given the cast and the fantastic premise, this one will be worth the wait.
