There's been quite a bit of talk about video games and media consumption in general after the mass shootings in both El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio earlier this month. It's a discussion that's been had numerous times over the years, fading into the background for large amounts of time then brought back to the forefront when horrific tragedies like these shootings take place.

Warrick County Cares, a community organization dedicated to supporting youth and families that reside within the county is giving you the opportunity to be a part of that discussion on Tuesday, September 10th at 6:30 p.m. when they host Dr. Shannon Jones, Medical Director of the Evansville Psychiatric Children's Center, for a seminar at the Newburgh Library on Bell Road. Dr. Jones will be using her background in the field of child psychology to discuss the effects video games of all types, as well as media consumption in general, has on young minds. Topics will include whether or not video games are addictive, how much screen time is too much, and video game ratings.

If you have concerns about the amount of time your child or another you know spends on their phones, tablet, or gaming system, or you're just interested in learning more about any correlation between these activities and how they could possibly tie into events like what took place in El Paso and Dayton, make plans to be a part of what should be an informative evening.
