Last week, we reported on the disappearance of 8-month-old Amiah Robertson from Indianapolis. Police now believe she is the victim of a homicide. Police suspect Amiah's mother's boyfriend, 20-year-old Robert Lyons. He was reportedly the last one seen with Amiah when he took from her home on March 9th.

In a Saturday press conference, Chief Bryan Roach with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said "We’re telling you now that this is a homicide investigation, but it has been all week, since early on, because things just didn’t add up."

He also stated, "We are frustrated and quite frankly angry because of misinformation and lack of information and lack of cooperation from those who are most closely involved."

Investigators believe Lyons took Amiah from her home a week before she was reported missing. She was supposed to go to the babysitters but never showed up. He has also been telling fabricated stories about where the baby should be to the girl's mother, friends, family, and police. Based on a tip, items belonging to Amiah and her family were recovered from a search along the bank of the White River.

Police are asking that anyone who has any information on his activities between March 9 and March 16 to please contact them. It is believed he took the baby on March 9th right after 1 PM from her home on Indianapolis' south side, so they are focusing in particularly on the hours directly after he took her. He was last seen with her near Rockville Road and South Mickley Avenue.

“There’s a Food Mart there. There are apartments there. It’s an area I know he was there on March 9. I’m not sure what he was doing, and that’s why I’m asking for help, why he was in that area,” Burkert said.

The baby's mother, Amber Robertson, is not considered a suspect at this time. She has been cooperating with investigators and they report that they understood why she waited so long to report her missing.
