KY Restaurant Flooded With Complaints After Waving Ukrainian Flag

Prepping for my radio show this morning, I came across a Facebook post from a restaurant in Bardstown, KY. What I saw in the post made my heart hurt. It hurt for the General Manager who was trying to show a gesture of support for the people of Ukraine. But, it turned into a feeding frenzy of complaints on social media.

Why are people complaining about the Ukrainian flag at Colton's Steak House & Grill?

According to kentucky.com and the Lexington Herald-Leader, it was a misunderstanding.

<p>Colton’s Steak House & Grill...previously displayed two Texas flags on the exterior of the restaurant but switched one to a Ukraine flag shortly after the country was invaded by Russia. Residents of the rural Kentucky town thought the restaurant had replaced an American flag, not a Texas flag.</p><p> </p>

So basically, just a reason to complain about anything and everything When are we going to stop thinking that our opinions or views are the only ones that matter? When are we going to stop thinking that each of us is the center of the universe and that we can say and do whatever unkind thing we want to?

A personal reason for waving the Ukrainian flag

The Lexington Herald-Leader went on to share the fact that the General Manager, of the restaurant, had adopted a son from Eastern Europe and he had friends in Ukraine. Every day, they worry about their friends. Wouldn't you?

It makes me sick to think that this man and his family felt any pain from the baseless and hateful words and opinions of others.

Words can be painful when they are used for kindness

The General Manager made a Facebook in defense of the flag he was proud to wave in honor of his friends, A flag that represents innocent civilians that are being hurt and killed every day.

So no American flag was replaced. The Texas flag on the right remained and we put a Ukraine flag in the place of the left one.
