Visit Wesselman Woods in Evansville for FREE to See Brand New ADA Accessible Trail
Did you realize that Wesselman Woods, here in Evansville, is the largest tract of virgin, old-growth forest within any city limits in the United States? Not just in the state of Indiana, or in the Midwest, but in the entire country. That's definitely worth bragging about. One more thing to brag about is the brand new ADA-accessible trail, made possible thanks to funding from the AARP Community Challenge grant.
To celebrate the completion of the new trail, Wesselman Woods is offering a FREE Week (it's just like it sounds) from Thursday, August 24th through Sunday, August 27th with an additional two free days on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 29-30. Admission to Wesselman Woods will be FREE during regular business hours (9am-5pm on Tuesday-Saturday and 12n-5pm on Sunday).
To kick off Free Week, a ribbon cutting for the trail will take place on Thursday, August 24 at 10am at the Wesselman Woods Nature Center located at 551 N. Boeke Road in Evansville. Wesselman Woods Director of Development, Jerry Rairdon, has this to say...
We are incredibly proud that AARP selected Wesselman Woods for this investment to make Evansville more livable for residents of all ages. AARP is a nationwide leader in making communities more livable and we are honored that they see the tangible value this project will bring to our area.
The Wesselman Woods Mini Loop Trail will provide viewing access to the Alcoa Raptor Building which includes resident animal ambassadors such as the bald eagle, peregrine falcon, and great horned owl. The trail also provides a close-up view of the County Champion Tulip Tree. This same loop is frequented by guests who take tours at the annual Maple Sugarbush Festival.
