The 3rd Annual Pumpkin & Pickle Festival Returns to Beloved Kentucky Farmhouse
Pumpkins and Pickles may seem like a funny combination for a festival, but I think it's the perfect way to celebrate the end of Summer as we transition into Fall. Preserving cucumbers locally grown over the past few months and welcoming the pumpkins to the patch!
And The Cottage Farm Stand & Baking Co. in West Daviess County wants to welcome YOU to this fan-favorite event where you can enjoy a beautiful day of fun for the whole family. October 21st and 22nd from 9-4, you can shop, play, and eat to your heart's content all while supporting local farms and makers. With only a $5 parking fee, it's important to the wonderful folks at The Cottage to make sure this day and any visit to their farmhouse doesn't break the bank.
I chatted with the fabulous Marlene Knight, the owner of The Cottage who gave me the scoop on what you can expect for this year's festival. It is bigger and better than ever with a great variety of over 100 vendors already lined up it's the perfect place to start your Christmas shopping or treat yourself. Jewelry, clothing, home decor, you name it. I always appreciate the opportunity to support a small business and give love to local entrepreneurs!
Live music from Anabel Whitledge, Emmalee Chinn, Kentucky Shine, and The Sam Gyllenhaal Band provide the soundtrack as you make your way through the Corn Maze that's bigger and better with a fun game. Keep track of the answers hidden inside 10 mailboxes along the trail to win a prize at the end. The Maze is $5.00 per person with children under 2 free.
You can also meet the cute animals at the petting zoo, and pick your own pumpkin from the patch. They even have paint and brushes so you can decorate it once you've found the perfect one.
The unique and exciting part of the Pumpkin & Pickle Festival is, of course, all of the yummy treats featuring...you guessed it! Pumpkins & pickles! They will have some of your favorite local food trucks slinging delicious food, but the masterminds in The Cottage kitchen have been brainstorming some really creative dishes that will make your mouth water and maybe pucker!
"There will be fried pickles, pickle Kentucky Kolache, pickle sicles, pickle tater tots, pickle popcorn, pumpkin & pickle shaped cookies & cake pops, pickle juice shots, slushies, and more. “We like to let our imagination run wild. The festival is only two days so we to want pack as much fun with two fan favorites as we can into this event,” Knight said."
Brew Bridge will also be there with their Pickle Beer! That sounds really interesting!
I'm already dreaming about the new Pickle Burger. Juicy Hillview Farms patty topped with fried pickles, cheese, and their amazing dill pickle dip. Or maybe you'd rather go for some warm and cozy butternut squash soup. You definitely can't leave without some of their legendary mini muffins. Pumpkin cheesecake will be the star of the show for the festival, but you can't go wrong with any flavor. I always make a beeline to their booth at the Farmer's Market to grab a sampler dozen!
The Cottage located at 6869 Highway 56 in Sorgho is still accepting vendors for this event, so if you are interested in renting a booth at the Pumpkin & Pickle Festival, contact Marlene via email at marleneknightevents@gmail or send a message via The Cottage Facebook page.
