Owensboro’s Burger Week is back, and while some of y’all are out here craving jalapeño pineapple bourbon glaze, I’m just trying to avoid onions. If you’re a fellow picky eater who still wants in on the fun, don’t worry, I’ve rounded up the burgers that pass the “no weird stuff” test.

How I became this picky is honestly a mystery. I grew up in a “you will finish what’s on your plate” household, which meant I spent many dramatic hours at the dinner table avoiding vegetables. Somewhere along the way, my 10-year-old taste buds decided to stick around permanently. My condiment list is limited to ketchup, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce with no aioli, no mystery drizzles. The only veggies I’ll willingly eat are French-style green beans (from a can), corn, tomatoes, and potatoes, which barely count. Seafood? Not happening unless it’s Mrs. Paul’s frozen fish sticks. I love meat, especially chicken, but I stick to what I know, which is exactly why Burger Week is a struggle. Tell me I’m not alone!

The “I’d Actually Order This” List

Burger Week can feel a little intimidating when your taste buds never graduated past fifth grade. While some folks (looking at you, Chad and my husband) are loving the bourbon glazes and pepper stacks, I’m over here investigating menus like a detective.

The good news? This year features a record number of participating restaurants, which means more chances to find something delicious without stepping too far outside the comfort zone. Even for the selective among us, there are plenty of winners hiding in plain sight. Let’s find them.

The “Yes, Please” List for Picky Eaters

These are the burgers that pass my picky-eater test with no weird toppings, no sauces with names I can’t pronounce, just good, honest burgers. And if something isn’t your thing? No worries, most can easily be picked off, like onion straws, which I left on the list because I’d eat them. Scroll through and find your safe-but-delicious pick!

During Burger Week, restaurants are flipping burgers at lightning speed, so it’s not always realistic to expect every custom request to be perfect. That’s why I’ve rounded up burgers that any picky eater can order as-is and still be thrilled. These are the ones I’d actually eat, and hopefully, they’ll make your Burger Week a little easier (and a lot tastier)!
