Help Dempsey Get Postcards From His Home State of Kentucky
On behalf of residents at Signature HealthCARE at Hillcrest, an Owensboro nursing and rehabilitation center, I'm making a request. (How do you like that? A RADIO guy making a request. The shoe is on the other foot at the moment.)
But I don't want to hear a song. I want to see cards. More to the point, I want to make sure Signature's residents see cards. I love this project.
Signature Hillcrest has asked its residents which state they'd like to receive a postcard from. But there's more to it. Residents who want a card get to make a video asking for one. What a fun way to let their personalities shine across social media! And shine they do, if Dempsey here is any indication. He's a Navy veteran who has chosen Kentucky. Go 'Cats!
Previously, Signature shared footage from Dempsey's Honor Flight, offering followers a glimpse of another memorable experience in his life. But this time, we're focused on a different kind of connection, one that can be made with nothing more than a postcard and a few minutes of your time.
Navy Veteran Has a Postcard Request for Kentucky
Kentucky is Dempsey's home state, and Signature Hillcrest is hoping fellow Kentuckians will answer his request with plenty of postcards. The project has already featured residents asking for cards from states including Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Florida, Indiana and several others.
It's quite simple: residents choose a state, make a video asking people to send postcards, and then share their mail with the Facebook community when the cards arrive. It's a fun and easy way to bring a little of the outside world into their daily lives, one envelope at a time.
And speaking from experience, you WILL bring great joy into their lives. My mom was in a nursing facility during the last three-plus years of her life, and I can tell you that this kind of activity is a grand slam home run.
Send Dempsey a Little Kentucky Love
So, if you're in Kentucky, why not pick out a postcard and send Dempsey a little hometown love? You don't have to write a novel. A few friendly words from a fellow Kentuckian could make his day.
