I'll start with full disclosure, I still haven't seen Top Gun: Maverick, and I always pride myself on keeping up with the latest pop culture touchstones. This long-awaited sequel made major waves at the box office, and it was nominated for six Oscars, winning one for Best Sound. My relationship with the original movie is lukewarm at best.

Seriously, even after it hit HBO, I think I watched it once or I caught parts of it, after all, it was rated R. The sequel, to draw a big audience, is rated PG-13. Top Gun: Maverick was delayed many times, especially during Covid, but when it was released theatrically last summer, it was promoted as the movie that would make audiences come back to the theater. The film avoided the home streaming that other major releases had to adjust to in 2020. It was finally released on Paramount Plus this past December and it became the most-watched movie to debut on the streamer.

So this video is fun yet relevant. Watch as the 2023 Louisville Football team does a shot-for-shot remake of the beach football scene in Top Gun: Maverick.

Louisville native and former Cardinal quarterback Jeff Brohm is back home as head coach. It's his first time doing any type of coaching with the Cardinals after serving as head coach at WKU and most recently Purdue. It's cool he can still throw as well as he did back in the day.

The Cardinals' season will kick off Friday, September 1st with a road trip to Atlanta to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Their first home game with follow on September 7th against Murray State.
