4 Important Things to Know About the Illinois Income and Property Tax Rebates Coming Out
On September 12, 2022, the State of Illinois will begin sending out the income and property tax rebate checks we've been hearing so much about. If you're like me though, you probably have some questions. I recently came across an article from NBC Chicago that provided some answers to the questions I had, and I'm hoping this info will help you too.
Who Qualifies for Illinois' Income and Property Tax Rebate?
As part of the Family Relief Plan that Governor Pritzker signed into effect earlier this year, all Illinois residents who filed taxes in 2021 and make under $200,000 individually ($400,000 jointly), will be eligible for the Individual Income Tax Rebate.
Illinois residents who paid property taxes in 2021 and 2022, and who make an adjusted gross income of up to $500,000 jointly or up to $250,000 individually also qualify for Illinois' Property Tax Rebate.
How Much Will Each Person Get?
I'm sure you know that the rebate amount isn't huge, but every little bit helps, right? Each qualified resident who filed taxes in 2021 will basically receive $50 per person. If you filed with dependants, you will receive $100 per dependant up to $300.
If you qualify for the Property Tax Rebate, you will receive a rebate equal to the property tax credit you claimed on your 2021 taxes, up to $300.
How Will I Receive My Rebates?
If you filled out an IL-1040 and/or IL-1040-PTR form when filing your 2021 taxes, your rebate will be sent automatically to the account where your 2021 tax refund was sent. If you did not receive a refund in 2021, a rebate check will be mailed to the address you have on file.
Can I Check the Status of My Rebate?
