For those of us who use I-69 / Veterans Memorial Parkway to get into downtown Evansville for work or whatever (myself included), the past week or so has been a bit of an inconvenience in the grand scheme of things with Riverside Drive being closed so the Water Department could replace old pipes under the road. But those days are just about over (until the next project anyway), as the road is expected to reopen this Friday.

According to a press release from Mayor Winnecke's office, there is one more piece of the puzzle before traffic can flow freely. Beginning today (Wednesday, April 10th) and continuing until Friday, crews will be "excavating a trench across Waterworks Road near the Waterworks and Riverside intersection." During this entire project, drivers have been able to cross Riverside and access the east bound lanes of I-69 / Veterans Memorial Parkway at this intersection, and that will still be the case over these final few days, however flaggers will be in place to direct traffic as noted in the tweet below from the City of Evansville account.

Your best bet will be continuing to avoid the area for another couple of days and using an alternate route like the Lloyd Expressway or Highway 41 to get into downtown, which is a bit of a hassle due to the number of stoplights and increased traffic, but at least we can see a light at the end of the tunnel!
