HCW Development and the City of Evansville have announced that March 10th has been selected as the official groundbreaking date for the much anticipated $71.3 million Convention Center Hotel by DoubleTree and residential apartments in Downtown Evansville. The groundbreaking will happen at 3pm.

“After a frigid winter resulting in sub-zero temperatures and significant snow fall, HCWE and City officials are excited to break ground and move the project forward,” said Rick Huffman, President of HCWE.

Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke stated, “The groundbreaking is yet another important milestone forthis project and our local workforce is eager to begin construction. The 257 room hotel will put our city back on the map for convention business, as well as spur additional downtown development. HCW has been a great partner throughout this process and we look forward to opening the doors in the Fall of 2015.”

The company has obtained agreeable financial commitments that pave the way for financing the Hotel and Convention Center asset. Design drawings have been approved by the City, and the architects and civil engineers are in the process of completing construction drawings, which will be submitted to the state in order to secure building permits.

“We are anxious to complete the final construction documents and go out for hard bids,” Huffman said. “In the meantime, we are moving forward with site preparation and civil plans necessary to insure the construction logistics of the development and structural integrity of the buildings.”
