If you or someone you know has a desire to serve the community, protect it's residents, and possess the bravery to run toward danger while others run away, life as a member of the Evansville Fire Department may be for you.

The Department will be accepting applications for new firefighters from January 1st - 31st. Applications can be filled out online through the Vanderburgh County website. According to the site, applicants will also need to provide the following when submitting their applications:

  • Copy of your birth certificate / proof of U.S. citizenship
  • Copy of high school diploma/GED. Certified transcripts or post secondary documents accepted
  • Copy of your valid driver license
  • Copy of your driving record
  • Copy of your social security card
  • Copy of your DD214 Honorable Discharge or other separation documents (only military personnel if applicable)

Once completed, applications and the above documentation can be submitted by e-mail to efdemployment@evansvillefiredepartment.com, by standard mail, or delivered in person to the following address:

Evansville Fire Merit Commission
550 SE 8th St.
Evansville, IN 47713
Attn: Employment

If your application is accepted, the next step will be a series of tests including a written exam and a CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) which, according to the National Testing Network website, is "a sequence of events requiring you to progress along a predetermined path from event to event in a continuous manner."

But wait, there's more!

After completion of the tests, assuming you completed them in a satisfactory manner, you'll be called in for an interview with the Department.

For more information on the application process, visit the Vanderburgh County website.
