It seems we're always looking forward to the next season. When we're sweltering under the heat and humidity of Tri-State summers, we can't wait for fall to get here to cool things down. When the chill of the winter months come around, we can't wait for it to get warm again. One season we often forget about and never look forward to (I assume) is flu season, but it's one we all should prepare for, and the Vanderburgh County Health Department (VCHD) is helping us do that with two more Flu Clinics this month.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) strongly encourages anyone over the age of six months get a flu vaccine. Especially those "at high risk of serious complications from influenza," which includes young children, pregnant women, adults 65 and over, individuals with asthma, diabetes, cancer, and HIV or AIDS, as well as those who have heart disease, and children with neurological conditions. The CDC offers specific reasons why the flu can be more harmful to people in each of those categories on their website.

The final two VCHD clinics of the year (as of this post) will happen on Friday, November 8th and Monday, November 18th from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. both days, and according to a post on the Department's Facebook page, is open to the following people:

  • Children (6months – 18 years) with Medicaid or no insurance
  • Adults with no insurance
  • Adults and Children with some private insurances

For more information on the clinics, contact the VCHD at (812) 435-2400, or health@vanderburghcounty.in.gov.
