The race to win the republican nomination for president shifted drastically last night when Newt Gingrich won the South Carolina primary with 41% of the vote.

The former House Speaker knocked the previous favorite, Mitt Romney, soundly out of the lead, by a 13 point margin.

Rick Santorum managed to lock in 17% of the votes.  Ron Paul garnered just 13%.

The candidates now set their sights for the Florida primary January 31.
