Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke, along with Indiana Republican State Chairman Kyle Hupfer, held a last minute press conference on Friday morning announcing an exciting event coming to Evansville in 2018.

Chairman Hupfer announced that Evansville will be the host city for the 2018 Indiana State Republican Convention to be held on June 8th and 9th!

In the past, the convention was always held in Indianapolis. Four years ago they decided to move it to other cities in the state. After having success in Fort Wayne, the decision was made to continue moving the convention around. Evansville was one of several cities to submit a proposal to host the convention.

Mayor Winnecke is excited about the future when it comes to Evansville hosting conventions and other events. We recently had a great turnout for the Theatre on Ice event. And in 2018 we will host the Ohio Valley Conference Men and Women's Baskeball Championship at the Ford Center. According to Winnecke, "We are open for business...we want to roll out the red carpet to any organization, no matter their political stripes."
