You Probably Have Vinegar in Your Kitchen, But It Might Belong in Your Closet Too
A Kitchen Staple That Can Freshen Up Your Closet
I always love when people give me fun facts that I didn't think I would use, but they actually come in handy. This simple household staple can help for some of those annoying closet problems.
Okay, hear me out. You probably have a bottle of white vinegar sitting somewhere in your kitchen, and while you may only think of it as something you use for cooking, cleaning or making a weird science experiment with baking soda, it actually has another pretty useful job.
Vinegar can help freshen up your closet.
And honestly, I'm always interested in a household trick that doesn't require me to go out and buy another $14 "odor eliminator" that I'm probably going to forget about anyway.
So, What Can Vinegar Actually Do?
One of the biggest reasons people use white vinegar around their homes is because of its ability to help neutralize odors.
That can be especially helpful in a closet where you have clothes, shoes, coats and other things sitting around in a small, enclosed space.
We've all opened a closet at some point and thought, *What is that smell?*
Maybe it's a pair of shoes that have seen better days. Maybe it's a coat that picked up some interesting smells during the winter. Or maybe your closet just has that stale, closed-up smell.
Vinegar can help tackle some of those odors.

Here's the Closet Trick
One easy way to try it is to put a small bowl of white vinegar inside your closet and leave it there for several hours or overnight.
The vinegar smell can be pretty strong at first, but the idea is that it can help absorb or neutralize some of the unpleasant odors in the space.
Just make sure the bowl is somewhere stable where nobody is going to bump into it and spill vinegar all over your clothes.
And please don't pour vinegar directly onto your favorite sweater. That's not the life hack we're going for here.

It Could Also Help With Musty Smells
If your closet has a slightly musty smell, especially after a humid Evansville summer, vinegar may be worth trying as part of your cleaning routine.
Of course, if you're dealing with actual mold, mildew or a moisture problem, vinegar isn't a substitute for figuring out where that moisture is coming from. You want to fix the source of the problem instead of just covering up the smell.
But for a closet that just needs a little freshening up? It could be a simple trick to try.
Would You Try This?
I'm all for a household hack that costs next to nothing and uses something I already have sitting in the pantry.
So the next time you're doing a little closet clean-out, grab that bottle of white vinegar and give this trick a shot.
And honestly, maybe this is the sign that it's finally time to deal with that one closet you've been pretending doesn't exist.
You know the one. 😅
