University of Evansville Invests $1.2 Million in Student Wellness Through Upgraded Intramural Field
Intramural sports are a fun option for high school and college students who want to stay active and play a team sport. For example, I played on the basketball team during my freshman year of high school, but I wasn't quite good enough to make the team after that - but my buddies and I had a blast playing intramural basketball together. The same was true about my time at the University of Southern Indiana. Across town at the University of Evansville, the athletic department knows how important intramural sports are and has announced a major renovation project to improve that experience for students.
$1.2 Million Field Renovation Project
The current University of Evansville intramural fields area located on the northwest tip of campus along the Lloyd Expressway will undergo a major renovation, highlighted by a full turf field. The field will provide opportunities to the entire UE campus community including a year-round outdoor turf facility for intramurals and the Purple Aces soccer programs, along with an open campus area for students to enjoy recreational activities.
Dr. Rachel S. Carpenter, Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students, had this to say about the renovations...
This project reflects the University of Evansville's commitment to our students' wellness through physical activity including intramural sports and outdoor recreational opportunities. This project will give our student body as well as our student-athletes the flexibility of utilizing this outdoor space on a year-round basis.
Who's Paying for This Project?
If you're wondering who will foot the $1.2 million bill, just know that it ain't me and it ain't you. Funding for the project was completely covered through the sale of UE's old Division Street property to Wesselman Woods in June 2023.
