According to officials, what's known as a siphon effect can be created when a hose is submerged while filling a pool. If the water pressure in the pool drops slightly, it could cause pool water to be sucked back into your hose, which could potentially contaminate your drinking water.

Have you ever heard of this kind of thing happening? I haven't. Is it really that big of a deal? I guess it's important enough that we need to be reminded that it is at least a possibility. So maybe err on the side of caution this summer and either keep the hose out of the water or install a backflow prevention device on your hose bib.
