Evansville Otters Pitcher Signs With Colorado Rockies
I’ve been talking about the Evansville Otters so much lately that I’m starting to feel like a broken record – but when there’s this much good news, I have to tell everyone about it! The Otters started the 2026 season winning the first four games (the first time since 2008), including a combined no-hitter during the season opener! Now, one of the pitchers responsible for that no-no is taking the next step towards a career in the big leagues.
Grif Hughes Earns Opportunity With the Rockies
The Evansville Otters are excited to announce that left-handed pitcher Grif Hughes has had his contract acquired by the Colorado Rockies. Grif got the start on Opening Day, and tossed six hitless innings, leading the Otters to their fourth no-hitter in team history. Following that outing, Grif was named the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week for the season's opening weekend.
Grif walked into Bosse Field in 2024 as a prospect. He's leaving as a Rockies signee with a 3.07 career ERA and 61 strikeouts. That arc matters.
Otters Field Manager Andy McCauley says the team will not only miss Grif’s arm, but also his presence…
Not only is Grif an incredibly hard worker, but he also makes the clubhouse a better place. We know he is going to make the most of this opportunity and continue to prove his skill set.
