Let Me Set the Scene

If you know me you know I am a rock chick through and through. I grew up listening to classic rock and it never left me. So when Chad called me up last week and asked if I wanted to head out to an event representing GBF, our local rock station, I did not even let him finish the sentence before I said yes.

Me. Callie. The girl who loves everything guitars and everything coffee. Being sent to a live music event at a coffee shop on a Saturday. That is not a workday. That is a dream day.

What the Event Was All About

Lethal Latte in Powderly, Kentucky, was hosting a rock event to raise money for the Muhlenberg County Humane Society so they could get a new building. Great music, great coffee, and helping animals find a home. I genuinely could not think of a better combination if I tried.

Kat, the gal who usually takes these remotes, was on vacation and was cool with me stepping in for the day, and I have to be honest, I think I killed it.

The Pink Carpet and the Bands

We walked the pink carpet. Yes, the PINK carpet. And that alone set the tone for the entire day.

I got to interview two incredible bands who each drove over six hours to be there and perform. First up was EYECANDY from Johnson City, Tennessee. Super cool band with amazing energy, and they raffled off a Harley Benton double neck guitar with a portion of the proceeds going directly to the Muhlenberg Humane Society. I got to hold the guitar. It was pretty sick. Just an all-around cool band and a really thoughtful way to be part of something bigger.

Then we got to sit down with Past Silent out of Bowling Green, Kentucky. Their lead singer Jacob, is originally from Alabama, and he was just a cool dude here to play for a good cause. He said he didn't mind driving all that way to perform and help some puppies find a home. If that does not make you smile, nothing will.

The People Who Made It All Come Together

I also have to give a massive shoutout to Mike Vanderver, who was the event coordinator and the guy running in fifteen different directions the entire day to make sure everything went smoothly. Mike is a man of many talents. He is an EMT, he is running for mayor, and he can pull off a successful event like this. Just an incredibly kind person who clearly has a big heart for this community.

And I cannot say enough about my sales rep, Samantha Raley. She is just a doll of a person. She thought of me for this event, helped take photos all day, introduced me to everyone, drank coffee with me, and somehow became one of my favorite people in a single afternoon. That is a rare kind of person, and I am really glad she was there.

Lethal Latte Is Worth the Drive

The owner of Lethal Latte, Tess, is one of the coolest people I have met since moving here. She has an incredible eye for design and has created a space that just feels like nowhere else. The coffee was amazing, the aesthetic was giving pink and black rock and roll energy, and I genuinely felt like I was in an Avril Lavigne music video the entire day.

Overall, it was a great event. I loved meeting the people and the coffee shop, but the MAIN takeaway from this event was the money raised for the Muhlenberg County Humane Society.

Because of this event, they fundraised over $5,000 for the Humane Society. That money will go into building a new building for the Humane Society. With the amount of critters coming in, lots of local Humane Societies are getting full and need the community's help, and that's exactly what happened Saturday. The community came out to help and have fun, so not only are people smiling, but tails are wagging too!

Rock and roll. Caffeine. Rescue animals. Great people. Pink and black vibes. That was my Saturday, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

And anytime I get to step in for Kat Mykals for the day, I am going to show up and give it everything I have got.

Visit Lethal Latte at 2235 W Everly Brothers Blvd in Powderly and be sure to get your very cute swag while you are there.
