The Great Fall Thermostat Battle

Fall is finally here in the Evansville area. The mornings are chilly, the afternoons can still feel like summer, and somewhere inside your house, a thermostat war is probably already underway.

You know exactly how it goes. One person says, “It’s freezing in here!” Someone else immediately responds, “Are you kidding me? It’s 72 degrees!”

And just like that, the battle begins.

The "I'm Freezing" Camp

This all started with going to my Godmother's House where it doesn't matter if it's September she has the heat on. There are people who believe anything below 75 degrees is basically arctic weather.

They’re wearing sweatshirts, wrapping themselves in blankets and walking around the house looking for the warmest spot.

Their favorite phrase this time of year?

“Can you turn the heat up just a little?”

The "Open The Window" Camp

Then there’s the person who thinks turning on the heat in October is completely ridiculous.

They’re still wearing shorts, the windows are cracked open and they’re wondering why everyone else is complaining.

Their response?

“It’s not cold! It’s perfect outside!”

And if you touch that thermostat, prepare yourself.

The Thermostat Has Become One Big Battlefield

Love isn't the only thing that's a battlefield. The thermostat is too! Fall creates the perfect conditions for thermostat disagreements because Evansville weather can’t seem to make up its mind.

It can be chilly when you wake up, warm by lunchtime and then cool off again after sunset.

So what’s the answer?

Layers.

Apparently, the thermostat is not the solution to every temperature problem but try telling that to the person who has already changed it three times today.

So Who Controls the Thermostat

Every household has one.

Maybe it’s the person who pays the electric bill. Maybe it’s whoever gets to the thermostat first. Or maybe there’s an unwritten rule that the person who’s cold gets a blanket before touching the thermostat.

Whatever your household’s rules are, one thing is certain:

Fall may bring us cooler temperatures, but it also brings the annual Great Thermostat Battle.

So, Evansville, we want to know:

What temperature do you keep your house in the fall and who in your house is ALWAYS changing the thermostat?
