Evansville Children's Choir Celebrating 50 Years with Big Plans for the Future
When I was younger, I was a part of a choir, and I will never forget it. To this day, I don't think I'm that great a singer, but it taught me how to read music and sing with my friends, and I just remember having so much love and respect for my choir teacher, Mrs. Vogt. My Great Grandma was also the Director of her church's choir for years. Well, it's time to highlight a Choir Organization here in Evansville.
For 50 years, the Evansville Children's Choir has been helping young singers find their voices while creating memories that last a lifetime. Now, the organization is celebrating that milestone with special events, exciting travel plans, and an invitation for new members to join the choir.
A Golden Anniversary Celebration
The Evansville Children's Choir will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special performance on Saturday, November 8.
As part of the celebration, former choir members are invited to return for an alumni concert at 2 p.m. at Methodist Temple. Alumni are encouraged to attend, share memories of their time in the choir, and reconnect with fellow singers. No RSVP is required. Headed Back Across the Pond
The choir also has another reason to celebrate.
For the first time in decades, the Evansville Children's Choir is preparing for an international performance opportunity after being invited by the Indianapolis Children's Choir to travel to London and Bath, England in June 2027.
The choir will participate in an eight-day residency, performing alongside the Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra and world-renowned composer Sir John Rutter. The experience will also give students the opportunity to perform in historic venues, collaborate with musicians from around the world, and experience England's culture firsthand.
While the choir traveled to London and Harlaxton back in the 1980s, it's been many years since they've had the chance to embark on an international trip like this.
Fundraising Underway
To make the trip possible, the Evansville Children's Choir is working to raise $150,000 to help cover airfare, lodging, meals, transportation, performance expenses, and educational activities.
Organizers say they're committed to making sure every child has the opportunity to participate, regardless of their family's financial situation. Donations of any size will help make that goal a reality while giving local students the chance to represent Evansville on an international stage.
