You probably wouldn’t think that something as simple as a gas card could make much of a difference in a child’s life. But for the volunteers with Vanderburgh County CASA, it's one of the most meaningful gifts you can give. Let me explain.

Why CASA Volunteers Travel So Much

A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a trained volunteer who serves as a consistent voice for children navigating the court system. Sometimes these kids get moved all around the state, so the volunteers have to go where they are. A CASA’s responsibilities don’t end at the Vanderburgh County line.

Many of Vanderburgh County CASA's volunteers travel hundreds of miles every month to meet with the children they serve. Some of the most common destinations include Santa Claus, Fort Wayne, Owensboro, Indianapolis, and even as far north as Gary. Most folks (myself included) don’t think about that aspect, and don’t realize that CASA volunteers aren't reimbursed for their travel expenses – until now.

A New Way to Support Local Child Advocates

From July 13 through August 9, Vanderburgh County CASA is launching its first-ever Gas Card Drive, giving you a simple way to support these selfless volunteers who advocate for children experiencing abuse and neglect.

During the four-week Gas Card Drive, Vanderburgh County CASA is asking supporters to donate gas gift cards in any amount to help volunteers spend less time worrying about fuel costs and more time focusing on being there for local children.

Gift cards from Speedway, Circle K, Shell, Marathon, On the Fly, and even Visa gift cards are all welcome.

Every Tank of Gas Makes a Difference

It's a simple donation, but one that can have a lasting impact. A single tank of gas could help a volunteer make multiple visits, attend important meetings, and continue providing the stability and encouragement that children desperately need.
