If you’re a fan of TLC’s 1000-lb Sisters, or just love seeing Evansville pop up on national TV, get ready to feel a little extra hometown pride. The hit series is back with brand-new episodes starting January 6, 2026, airing at 8pm (Central) and this season has a very familiar local connection.

How the Vanderburgh Humane Society Became Part of the Show

The Vanderburgh Humane Society is officially part of the show and will be featured in the first three episodes of the new season. Filming took place in the spring of 2025, and according to TLC’s synopsis, viewers will see Tammy stepping into a whole new chapter of her life. After her transformative skin-removal surgery, Tammy is focusing on “adulting” – including taking on a volunteer role at an animal shelter as she approaches 40. That shelter? None other than our very own VHS right here in Evansville.

What This Kind of Exposure Means for Local Animals

VHS Director of Advancement Amanda Coburn says this kind of exposure can make a huge difference for the organization and the animals they care for every day. “Being featured on a successful network reality show like this will hopefully show viewers how fun volunteering at an animal shelter can be,” Coburn explains. “It will bring awareness to our mission, to the animals our team is caring for every day, and to what it takes to provide for them.”

And that awareness couldn’t come at a better time. The Vanderburgh Humane Society is heading into 2026 with several volunteer needs, offering opportunities that fit a wide range of schedules and interests. Some of the most urgent roles include helping sort and price items or run the register at Happy Tails Resale Shop, spending time with feline friends as a lounge or cat care volunteer at River Kitty Cat Café, and hands-on animal care roles at the shelter itself. With shifts available seven days a week, it’s easier than ever to find a way to help.

38 Celebrities Who Were Born in Indiana

There are a bunch of famous folks that everyone knows were born in Indiana, but there are even more that you didn't know about. Most of this list is arranged in alphabetical order, except for the handful of celebrities born in our neck of the woods here in southern Indiana. I gotta give them a little preferential treatment.
