What's the Best Way to Fold a T-Shirt?

On Saturday, my morning show co-host Mary-Katherine and I were broadcasting from the Orchard Music Fest at Reid's Orchard in Owensboro.

We were gifted t-shirts from our friend Tamarra, who's one of the creators of the event. When Mary-Katherine brought the t-shirts over to our broadcast booth, we immediately started folding our t-shirts. Only, we noticed that we each have a completely different way of doing it.

Retail Style T-Shirt Folding

Now, I will tell you that I honed my skills working in retail. One summer, in between college semesters, I lived in Brunswick, Maine. I worked in Freeport at a Gant and Izod outlet. I spent months folding shirts every single day.

I found this video online that captures how I fold!

For clarification, I don't use the Japanese fold- the first one demonstrated in that video. I use the second method, but I don't use a clipboard. That seems like an unnecessary additional step. I can create that same fold without one. That's exactly how I fold my t-shirts, dress shirts, and more. I can do it quickly, effortlessly, and, well, perfectly. Thank you, Camp Gant and Izod!

I will admit that my particular fold isn't exactly a space saver. But, the KonMari Method is. It just adds a few steps to the process.

The Kentucky 'Throw It in the Drawer' Rectangular Fold

Mary-Katherine, on the other hand, uses what I call "a bizarre rectangular fold" that I have never seen before. Though it's a close cousin to the KonMari Fold, she calls it the File Folder Method and credits a friend of hers, who's an organizational wizard, with teaching her how to do it.
