Kentucky Singer-Songwriter Takes on a ‘Mean Girl’ in World Debut Single

Today marks a major milestone for Stella Mabry. The Owensboro, Kentucky singer/songwriter is releasing her very first single to the world and she has an incredibly well-known music icon behind her.

Stella, who actually wrote the song "Mean Girl" before she was a teenager, has been writing and recording in Los Angeles, California. It was an early demo of that song that caught the attention of Les Garland, who's the co-founder of MTV Music Television, VH1 and The Box Music Network.

Les says, "When I learned that Stella had been bullied, which resulted in her writing and singing her first song, I became curious to hear it." He adds, "When I did, I instantly knew that I wanted to be a part of her musical journey."

That musical journey got off the ground quickly and Les rounded up some leading West Coast producers and musicians to work on the project. 'Mean Girl" was produced and recorded by Sasha Krivstov and Paul Mirkovich, from NBC's The Voice house-band, at Sound Factory, a legendary recording studio in L.A.  Everyone in the studio was blown away by Stella's vocal talent and her ability to turn her experiences into song. Sasha Krivstov says, "This girl's more than just a talent. She's a prodigy with a promising future."

It's entirely possible that future begins today as Stella Mabry releases "Mean Girl". She cites Billie Eilish, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Taylor Swift as inspirations and role models.

Stella was six and in kindergarten when she discovered she could sing. Now, it's quite possible the whole world's going to hear her.
