Steel Magnolias Returns To The Stage In Owensboro This February

WAS STEEL MAGNOLIAS A PLAY FIRST?
In March of 1987, the play Steel Magnolias, written by Robert Harling, opened Off-Broadway. It became wildly popular quite quickly and, just a few months later, transferred to the legendary Lucille Lortel Theatre, where it played over a thousand performances.
STEEL MAGNOLIAS THE MOVIE
Shortly after it achieved its stage success, the play was adapted for the big screen and a bunch of heavy hitters- including Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Julia Roberts, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, and Daryl Hannah- signed on for the movie version. The 1989 movie, much of which was filmed in the small town of Natchitoches, Louisiana, became an instant comedy classic. The movie is full of hilarious one-liners and zingers.

WHERE WAS STEEL MAGNOLIAS FILMED?
Like a lot of people, I have been a fan of the film since I saw it opening night. A couple of years ago, my friend Reba and I road tripped to Natchitoches to see some of the iconic Steel Magnolias locations.
