The Peabody Hotel in Memphis Celebrates 100 Years
One of my favorites memories as a child was my first trip to Memphis, Tennessee. We went to the Pyramid, Graceland, ate ribs at The Rendezvous, and I thought my dad was joking when he said we were going to a "duck hotel."
We waddled down to Union Avenue, and up above this massive building was a huge neon sign that read "The Peabody Hotel." We walk in and all of a sudden hear a loud whistle and the pitter-patter of tiny feet coming off the elevator. Ducks! On parade to the gorgeous fountain that sits in the lobby.
An ornate hub of folks bustling off the street to see the stars of the "show," and guests enjoying cocktails at tables scattered around. It is just beautiful with shops all around for souvenirs, fine jewelry, and custom suits. The walls would tell stories of weddings, parties, and historical moments.
As an adult, I found my way back and actually got to stay there last year for the St. Jude Country Cares Convention. Experiencing what makes it so special, I noticed that even the tiniest of details get the Peabody treatment. From the little bars of soap shaped like ducks to the coffee stirrers to the embroidery on the pillows, you'll remember your stay fondly.

Especially if you make it up to the roof! You can see the house where the ducks are pampered, and they even host parties up there. Talk about iconic. Speaking of parties and being iconic, just this week, The Peabody celebrated its 100th birthday.
As far as the grand history of The Peabody Hotel, this video plays in every room. It's an interesting look back at how it has evolved over the past century. Remaining a special place for events and travel, "The Duck Hotel" is a bucket list spot to visit or stay.
