Yellow Creek Park’s New Sign Opens a Floodgate of Facebook Commentary & Fond Memories
I'll come clean about the whole Cracker Barrel sign controversy. I didn't personally care, but I did have an opinion. While the move didn't resonate with me, it felt like a mistake for the iconic restaurant chain to abandon its longtime trademark vibe. And when its fan base responded, that "abandonment" was canceled.
Yellow Creek Park Sign
Here at the local level, Owensboro and Daviess County are similarly chiming in about an update to the Yellow Creek Park sign. In fact, there are new ones at both entrances.
No sooner was that posted than the comments started pouring in.
"Put it back the way it was."
"I can paint some more scenery on there if you need me to..."
"We really can let things have charm."
"Love the stone and the landscaping. But definitely loved the old one’s character so much more. Maybe hire local artists ?"
"This is like Cracker Barrel logo all over again."
With that in mind, here's another corner heard from.
Much like the Cracker Barrel bugaboo, the main theme running through the criticisms seems to be about tradition. The quaint old Yellow Creek Park sign takes people back to when they were enjoying the park as kids. From a personal standpoint, I get that. I don't have a stance on the park's new sign, but I get it.
When I was growing up, it felt like I spent half my life at Legion Park, and that was back when you could drive through it. Nostalgia is ever-present, and it has a lot of power. It makes you miss the small things, which really weren't so small after all, in our hearts and minds. For example, I miss being able to drive through the park anymore, but I know the current route is safer. I miss that the playground equipment isn't spread out across the park anymore and is instead relegated to one large, impressive unit, but I'm not a kid anymore, so my opinion doesn't matter.
Folks will have their opinions, and seemingly on everything. For what it's worth, I think the new sign looks good, but I'm pleased that we'll have the best of both worlds; the original sign is still there.
